MANAGED IT SERVICES

Managed IT services in Johannesburg

Managed IT services in Johannesburg means Namandla Consultants runs your day-to-day technology operations on a defined SLA rather than responding ticket by ticket. The service covers a managed service desk, proactive monitoring and event management, patch and vulnerability management, Microsoft 365 management, backup and recovery, incident and problem management and monthly service governance reporting, each delivered by a named senior engineer who knows your environment.

Established organisations across Johannesburg, Sandton, Midrand, Pretoria and Centurion use it as a fully managed service or alongside an internal team as co-managed support. Response commitments are published up front: a P1 is acknowledged within 30 minutes, and every month you receive a report of what changed, what was fixed and what comes next. Namandla Consultants operates from 25 Massel Road, Beyers Park, Boksburg, 1459, with engineers dispatched across Johannesburg and Gauteng. See the managed IT services overview for the full scope and plans.

APPROVED IT GUIDANCE

What our IT support covers

User support

Logging, triage and resolution across desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, email and business applications. Phone, email and portal. Every contact recorded and categorised, including the ones that take four minutes, because the pattern in the small tickets is where recurring problems show themselves.

Server and infrastructure support

Physical and virtual servers, storage, backup jobs and the operating systems and services underneath your business applications.

Network support

Switches, firewalls, wireless, VPN and connectivity, including chasing your line provider through a fault rather than leaving that to your office manager.

Microsoft 365 and identity

Accounts, licensing, mailboxes, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and device enrolment.

Security operations

Endpoint protection, patching, vulnerability remediation and access control.

Onboarding and offboarding

New starter provisioning and leaver de-provisioning done properly, meaning accounts disabled, sessions revoked, devices recovered and licences reclaimed on the day rather than at the next audit.

Vendor liaison

Dealing with your software suppliers, hardware vendors and connectivity providers for anything inside the agreed scope.

RESPONSE TIMES

Response times

Severity is assigned on business impact rather than on which system is involved. A print queue that stops a warehouse dispatching is a P1. A server alert affecting nobody until Monday is not.

Severity Definition Response target Hours
P1 Business stopped. A site, a core system or a production service is unavailable, or a security incident is in progress. 30 minutes Business hours and after hours through the standby escalation
P2 Major degradation. Multiple users affected and a workaround exists. 4 business hours Business hours
P3 A single user is blocked, or a service request. Next business day Business hours
Non-contract work No support agreement in place. Next business day, scheduled Business hours

Response means a person who can work the problem has made contact and started. Not an automated ticket receipt. That distinction is worth checking with any provider, because a fifteen-minute response time that means an email confirmation is not a response time.

Business hours are 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, excluding South African public holidays. Outside those hours the standby rota carries P1 only. Automated monitoring runs continuously and generates alerts around the clock. We do not advertise staffed round-the-clock support, because delivering it properly at our size would mean either charging for it or not delivering it. If your operation runs a night shift or a weekend window, extended cover for that window can be arranged and priced.

DELIVERY MODEL

Remote first, onsite when it matters

Most issues resolve remotely and faster that way, because the engineer starts working within minutes instead of within a drive. Remote tooling covers session takeover, unattended access, scripted remediation and monitoring.

Onsite attendance is for what genuinely needs hands: hardware faults, network cabling, new site builds, equipment installation, moves and anything where the network itself is the problem and remote access is therefore unavailable.

The ratio in a well-run environment settles at roughly ninety percent remote. If a provider is attending your site constantly, either the environment has an unaddressed underlying problem or the visits are the product rather than the fix.

SERVICE AREAS

Service areas

Onsite attendance is Gauteng. Remote support runs nationally.

Johannesburg

The full metro including the CBD, Braamfontein, Rosebank, Randburg, Roodepoort, Fourways and the southern suburbs.

Sandton and the northern suburbs

Sandton, Bryanston, Rivonia, Woodmead, Sunninghill and Morningside. Predominantly corporate office environments, where the work is weighted towards Microsoft 365, identity, endpoint management and hybrid working rather than physical infrastructure.

Midrand

Midrand, Halfway House, Waterfall and Kyalami. A concentration of distribution, light industrial and corporate campus environments, which typically means more network and warehouse infrastructure work alongside standard user support.

East Rand

Boksburg, Kempton Park, Benoni, Germiston, Edenvale, Isando, Spartan, Jet Park, Alrode and Springs. This is our home ground. Head office is in Boksburg, which makes response into the eastern industrial corridor materially quicker than from the northern suburbs. Heavily weighted towards logistics, distribution, manufacturing and warehousing.

Pretoria and Centurion

Pretoria, Centurion, Highveld and Menlyn. Onsite attendance is available and travel time is longer than for Johannesburg and East Rand sites, so we are direct about that at scoping. For clients here we lean harder on remote resolution and on getting the environment into a state where onsite need is rare.

West Rand

Krugersdorp, Roodepoort and Randfontein.

Outside Gauteng

Remote support and project delivery run nationally. For sites in other provinces the arrangement that works is central management from us with contracted local hands for physical work, which we help you establish and then manage. We do not claim onsite cover we cannot deliver, because you would find out during an outage.

HOW IT IS STRUCTURED

How support is structured

Fully managed

We own the IT function. Service desk, monitoring, patching, endpoints, backup, network and security under one agreement with the response times above. Suits organisations with no internal IT, or with internal IT focused entirely on applications and projects.

Co-managed

We own defined functions and your team owns the rest, with the boundary documented so both sides and your users can see it. The split that works most often is that we take the high-volume repetitive work and your team keeps the application knowledge, the business-specific vendor relationships and the project work.

This is the right answer more often than it is proposed, because a fully managed contract is a bigger contract. If you have one or two capable internal people who are stretched, co-managed puts them back on the work only they can do.

Project and ad-hoc

Scoped work with a defined start and end. Assessments, migrations, network builds, office moves and equipment rollouts. No ongoing commitment either way.

Ad-hoc support without an agreement is available and it is scheduled next business day. If you need a committed response time, that is what the agreement buys.

AFTER SIX MONTHS

What good support looks like after six months

A useful test, and one you can apply to any provider including us.

Ticket volume should be falling

Under a properly run arrangement, volume drops over the first two quarters as patching, configuration standards and problem management remove recurring causes. Flat volume after six months means tickets are being closed and causes are not being addressed.

Repeat tickets should be identified and named

The same fault appearing monthly should have a problem record and a root cause, not twelve incident records.

You should know what changed

A monthly report that lists ticket counts tells you how busy the provider was. A useful report tells you what changed in the environment, what the recurring causes are and what is proposed about them.

Onboarding and offboarding should be same-day

Leaver accounts still active weeks later is the most common finding in an access review and it is entirely a process problem.

Backups should have been restored, not just reported. Ask when a restore was last actually performed and what it proved. A green tick in a backup console proves data was written, not that it can be read back.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Common questions about IT Support in Johannesburg and Gauteng

How much does IT support cost in Johannesburg?

Managed IT support is usually priced per user or per device per month, or as a fixed fee for a defined scope. Ad-hoc support is billed hourly. The range across the Johannesburg market is wide because scope varies enormously, so a per-user figure is only comparable if the scope behind it is.

What moves the price is user and device count, number of sites, whether onsite attendance is included, the response times committed, whether third-party vendor management is in scope and whether tooling is included or billed separately. When comparing quotations, compare the exclusion lists rather than the inclusion lists. That is where the differences sit.

How quickly do you respond?

P1, meaning business stopped or a security incident in progress, is 30 minutes including after hours through the standby escalation. P2, major degradation with a workaround, is 4 business hours. P3 and non-contract work is next business day.

Response means an engineer who can work the problem has made contact and started. It does not mean an automated acknowledgement. Ask any provider to define what their response time measures, because the difference between contact by a person and receipt by a system is the difference between a commitment and a marketing figure.

Do you come to our offices?

Yes, across Gauteng. Johannesburg, Sandton, Midrand, the East Rand, Pretoria, Centurion and the West Rand. Most issues resolve remotely and faster that way, so onsite attendance is for what needs hands: hardware, cabling, installations, site builds and network faults.

Being based in Boksburg means the eastern industrial corridor, Isando, Spartan, Jet Park, Germiston and Kempton Park, is a short drive rather than a trip across the city. For Pretoria and Centurion travel time is longer and we say so at scoping rather than discovering it during an incident.

Do you support businesses outside Johannesburg?

Remote support and project delivery run nationally. Onsite attendance is Gauteng only.

For a multi-province estate the honest arrangement is central management and coordination from us with contracted local hands at each remote site for physical work. We help you establish those relationships and we manage them as part of the service. That works reliably. A national onsite claim from a Gauteng-based firm generally does not.

Do you offer 24/7 IT support?

No. Business hours are 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday. Outside those hours a standby rota carries severity 1 only, meaning a stopped business or a security incident in progress. Automated monitoring runs continuously.

We state that plainly rather than advertising round-the-clock cover backed by an answering service. If your operation genuinely runs outside standard hours, tell us during scoping. Extended cover for a defined window is arrangeable and it gets priced properly, which is a different thing from claiming it as standard.

Can you support us alongside our internal IT person?

Yes, and it is often the better arrangement. A co-managed agreement documents which functions we own and which your team owns, so the boundary is visible to everyone including your users.

The split that works is that we take service desk, patching, endpoint compliance and monitoring, and your internal person keeps the application knowledge, the vendor relationships specific to your business and the project work. That puts them on work nobody external can do as well, instead of on password resets and printer queues.

What if we already have an IT provider?

We can work alongside one, fill a specific capability gap or take over. We do not approach the conversation competitively and we will not use an engagement to pitch against your incumbent.

If an assessment finds something going wrong we will describe it factually in terms of what the environment shows, and what you do with that is your decision rather than something we lobby for. Where the relationship is working and there is a gap, filling the gap is usually better for you than a wholesale change.

How do you handle after-hours emergencies?

A standby rota carries P1 outside business hours, with a 30 minute response. P2 and P3 raised after hours are actioned from the next business morning.

P1 means business stopped or a security incident in progress. It does not mean a single user cannot print. Being clear about that in advance is what makes the standby arrangement work, because a rota that gets called for everything stops being reliable for the things that matter.

What is included in a support agreement and what is not?

Included is the support work itself: user support, server and network support, Microsoft 365 administration, monitoring, patching, backup management, onboarding and offboarding and vendor liaison, within the documented scope.

Not included is hardware and software purchase, licence costs, connectivity contracts, third-party subscriptions, application development and anything outside the agreed scope. Onsite attendance outside Gauteng is quoted separately. The exclusion list is written into the agreement in the same detail as the inclusion list, because vagueness about exclusions always resolves in the provider’s favour at the moment you need something.

How do you charge for onsite visits?

Onsite attendance within Gauteng is included in a managed agreement within the agreed scope. Project work, installations and site builds are quoted separately. Ad-hoc onsite work without an agreement is billed hourly with travel.

Where a provider bills every visit separately under a managed agreement, the incentive runs the wrong way. Where onsite is included without limit, the incentive is to avoid attending. We include it within the scope and we report on visit volume, so the pattern is visible to both of us.

What happens if we want to leave?

You get the documentation, the credentials, the configuration records and a handover to whoever takes over. Your tenants, subscriptions and licences are registered to you rather than to us throughout.

Ask any provider who your Microsoft 365 tenant, domain registration and licence subscriptions are registered to. Where they sit under the provider’s own agreement with you as a tenant inside it, leaving is considerably harder than it looks. That should be established before you sign rather than when you want to go.

When should we hire someone instead of using a support provider?

When you have enough consistent daily work to keep a person busy, when the work requires deep knowledge of your specific business rather than of technology, or when you need someone physically present every day.

Roughly speaking, a single site with steady work and no need for specialist depth across security, networking and cloud is often better served by an employee. What an employee cannot give you is coverage across every domain, cover during leave and illness or depth in areas they have never worked in. The arrangement that suits most mid-market organisations is one internal person who knows the business, supported by a provider for depth and coverage. If you are deciding between the two, we will give you an honest read on which fits, including when the answer is that you do not need us.
